During a DOT physical, a qualified healthcare professional will perform a thorough examination to assess your overall health. This may include:
→ Checking your vision and hearing
→ Assessing your cardiovascular health, including your blood pressure and pulse
→ Checking your respiratory system
→ Examining your musculoskeletal system
→ Assessing any medical conditions, such as diabetes or sleep apnea, that may impact your → ability to drive safely
→ A valid form of identification, such as a driver’s license
→ Your medical history, including any medications you’re currently taking
→ A list of any medical conditions you have been diagnosed with
Once your DOT physical is complete, the healthcare professional will provide you with a Medical Examiner’s Certificate if you pass the exam. This certificate must be carried with you while you’re operating a commercial vehicle. If you don’t pass the DOT physical, you may need to follow a specific treatment plan or undergo additional testing before you’re cleared to drive commercially.
