Dot physicals only $75

If you’re a commercial driver, you may be familiar with the term “DOT physical.” This exam, also known as a Department of Transportation physical, is a requirement for all commercial drivers who operate vehicles with a weight of 10,000 pounds or more. The purpose of the DOT physical is to ensure that commercial drivers are physically fit to operate a commercial vehicle safely.

Why is a DOT Physical Required?

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires all commercial drivers to pass a DOT physical to ensure that they are in good health and free from any medical conditions that may affect their ability to safely operate a commercial vehicle. The DOT physical is valid for up to two years, after which a new exam is required.

What Happens During a DOT Physical?

During a DOT physical, a qualified healthcare professional will perform a thorough examination to assess your overall health. This may include:

  • Checking your vision and hearing
  • Assessing your cardiovascular health, including your blood pressure and pulse
  • Checking your respiratory system
  • Examining your musculoskeletal system
  • Assessing any medical conditions, such as diabetes or sleep apnea, that may impact your ability to drive safely

What Do You Need to Bring to a DOT Physical?

Before your DOT physical, it’s important to bring the following items with you:

  • A valid form of identification, such as a driver’s license
  • Your medical history, including any medications you’re currently taking
  • A list of any medical conditions you have been diagnosed with

After the DOT Physical: What Happens Next?

Once your DOT physical is complete, the healthcare professional will provide you with a Medical Examiner’s Certificate if you pass the exam. This certificate must be carried with you while you’re operating a commercial vehicle. If you don’t pass the DOT physical, you may need to follow a specific treatment plan or undergo additional testing before you’re cleared to drive commercially.
