DOT Physical FAQs

What should I bring to my DOT exam?

Bring your valid CDL or driver’s license, a list of all current medications (including dosages), eyeglasses or contact lenses if applicable, any relevant medical records (e.g., sleep apnea treatment compliance, cardiac evaluations), and any FMCSA exemption letters you have been issued.

How long is the DOT medical card valid?
Most drivers receive a 2-year medical certificate. However, if you have certain conditions (e.g., high blood pressure, controlled diabetes, sleep apnea), you may receive a shorter certification period — 1 year, 3 months, or less — until your condition is better controlled or monitored.
What medical conditions affect DOT certification?

Conditions that may affect certification include uncontrolled high blood pressure, insulin-dependent diabetes (without exemption), untreated sleep apnea, vision below FMCSA standards, certain cardiac conditions, seizure disorders, and substance use issues. Many conditions are manageable with proper documentation.

How quickly can I be seen?
We typically have same-week availability for DOT physicals. We recommend calling ahead to confirm your preferred day.
